		Parce qu’il n’existe pas de livre traitant du cinéma qui ne cite à un moment ou à un autre la fameuse« allégorie de la caverne », je suis allé, à l'occasion du centenaire du cinématographe en 1995, qui pouvait être le moment opportun d’en dire quelque chose, revoir le texte de plus près (dans le livre VII de La République). Platon, au sixième siècle avant JC, y décrit effectivement, comme chacun s'en souvient plus ou moins, un dispositif de projection naturelle d’ombres animées visibles au fond d’une caverne, et tenues pour des objets réels par des esclaves enchaînés à l’intérieur de celle-ci. Ceci pour exprimer métaphoriquement quelques idées sur la vérité, que le philosophe oppose aux illusions et à la vision superficielle des choses (anticipant étonnamment, donc, notre maintenant bien familier dispositif cinématographique). J'en ai alors écrit une adaptation, la première à ma connaissance. Evidemment transposée au vingtième siècle, celui du cinéma, mais assez fidèle, comme pourront le constater ceux qui auront la curiosité de vérifier. Sauf en ce qui concerne la fin, que j'ai dû inventer par moi-même, l'histoire en question n'en étant pas vraiment pourvue. Ce qui m'a permis, prolongeant l’allégorie et ainsi l’acte philosophique, d'en réactualiser le sens, voire de le renverser : c'est que vingt-cinq siècles sont passés depuis, qui nous auront aussi apporté quelques autres choses en matière de vérité. Quoi qu'il en soit, je proposai ainsi mon premier objet de «filmosophie», entamant une démarche qui aurait pour but de solliciter, par le film, et non sans plaisirs cinématographiques divers, la capacité du spectateur à réfléchir, à penser le monde, et le cinéma par la même occasion.	When I realized there's not a single book on cinema which even mentions the famous “allegory of the cave”, I decided to take a closer look at the text (Book VII of The Republic), during cinematography's centenary, in 1995, which seemed an opportune moment to say something about it. Plato, in the sixth Century BC, described what everyone remembers, more or less, i.e., a setting in which the natural projection of shadows that are visible deep inside a cave are thought to be real objects by the slaves chained within it. The philosopher used this image metaphorically to express his ideas on truth, in opposition to illusion and the superficial vision of things (surprisingly anticipating, therefore, the familiar cinematographic device of nowadays). And so I wrote an adaptation, which I believe to be the first. Obviously transposed to the 20^th Century, and to cinema, but still quite faithful, as those who are curious enough to check out will see. Apart from the end, which I had to invent myself, as one was not really provided in the story. This allowed me to prolong the allegory and as such the philosophical act, to update the meaning, even to inverse it - seeing as twenty-one centuries have gone past since then, which have actually brought us a few more elements in relation to the matter of truth. In any event, the result was my first object of “filmosophy”, starting off an approach which aims to solicit, through film, and not without various cinematographic pleasures, the capacity of a viewer to reflect and think about the world as well as cinema.
